If Your Child StrugglesTo Focus Or Sit Still.
You're not alone, and it's not their fault. Some kids need something that challenges them individually, where their effort is the only thing that determines how far they go.
That's exactly what Jiu-Jitsu does. Every class demands full concentration. No drifting. No distraction.

The GB Kids Difference
Full Concentration. No Distraction.
Most kids who come here tried team sports first. The problem wasn't the child. It was that team sports give a distracted mind too many places to go. BJJ doesn't. Every second of every class demands full attention. There's nowhere else to be.
Some kids just need the right environment to thrive. When they find it, it doesn't stay on the mat. It carries into the classroom, into friendships, into every hard moment they'll face growing up.
Purpose-Built Kids Curriculum
Our age-specific classes (LC1 ages 5–6, LC2 ages 7–9, Juniors 10–14) are designed by child development experts and world-class BJJ coaches.
Blue Card Certified Instructors
Every instructor holds a Working with Children Blue Card. Your child's safety is always our highest priority.
Anti-Bullying at the Core
We teach kids how to de-escalate, escape, and defend. This gives them the confidence to handle bullying without becoming a bully.
We've Seen This Before
If you recognise your kid here, you're not alone.
The kids you see rolling on the mat today often showed up exactly like this. Their parents were nervous too. Here's what we do.
“They can't sit still.”
Then they're in the right place. The class is physical from the first moment, no sit-and-listen stretches. Kids who can't focus in a classroom often focus best on the mat. Body and brain doing the same thing at once.
“They've tried everything.”
It's a pattern, and usually it isn't your kid's fault. BJJ doesn't reward natural talent. No fastest kid, no tallest kid, no "naturally sporty" kid. You get better by showing up. Belt progression brings small, visible wins every few months. The ones who couldn't stick anything else tend to stick this one.
“School's been rough.”
This is the work we care most about. Anti-bullying isn't a poster on the wall, it's the spine of every class. Skill comes from controlled practice, never from showing off. Kids who walk in nervous walk out holding their own. Confident, not aggressive.
“They shut down easily.”
Then the mat is exactly the right place. Every class puts kids in unfamiliar positions trying things they haven't mastered. Coaches don't let them disappear, they walk them back in. After a few weeks, "unfamiliar" stops feeling dangerous. That mindset starts showing up everywhere it didn't before.
What Parents Start to Notice
Most kids ask “when can I come back?” before their first class is even over. Here's what builds from there.
They Finish.
Most distracted kids are not lazy. They lose the thread. On the mat, the problem in front of them is too immediate to drift from. That habit builds.
They Recover.
Setbacks are part of every class. Learning to reset and go again, without someone managing it for them, is one of the most transferable things they build here.
They Stay.
The mat is one of the few places where a child has to remain in a hard moment with no exit. They learn to sit with discomfort. That changes how they handle difficulty everywhere else.
They Concentrate.
Full attention is a skill, not a personality trait. It is trained here the same way every other skill is. Class by class, it becomes more natural.
They Reflect.
When something doesn't work, they know why. When they improve, they know why. There is no one else to credit or blame. That is a rare thing for a child to experience.
They Carry It.
What builds on the mat does not stay there. The focus, the recovery, the self-reliance. Parents tend to notice it before their child does.

“My son was being bullied at school. After a few months at Gracie Barra he stopped feeling small, spoke up for himself, and made incredible friends. I couldn't have given him a better gift.”

“My daughter was shy and lacked confidence. Jiu-Jitsu is the first activity I've seen her stick to. She doesn't even see it as exercise. She just loves it. It has changed everything.”
