The GB Kids Difference
No shortcuts. Just the work.
The mat is one of the few places where a child has to do the work themselves. Every belt is earned. Every move is drilled until it's real.
Class by class, they become someone who knows how to handle hard things. That doesn't stay on the mat. It carries into the classroom, into friendships, into every hard moment they'll face growing up.
Purpose-Built Kids Curriculum
Our age-specific classes (LC1 ages 5–6, LC2 ages 7–9, Juniors 10–14) are designed by child development experts and world-class BJJ coaches.
Blue Card Certified Instructors
Every instructor holds a Working with Children Blue Card. Your child's safety is always our highest priority.
Anti-Bullying at the Core
We teach kids how to de-escalate, escape, and defend. This gives them the confidence to handle bullying without becoming a bully.
We've Seen This Before
If you're worried they fold too easily, you're not alone.
The kids on the mat today often showed up exactly like this. Their parents had the same worries. Here's what we do.
“They quit when it gets hard.”
Most activities let them. Jiu-jitsu doesn't. There's no one to carry them and nowhere to hide. After a few weeks they stop reaching for the exit, because they realise they can survive the discomfort.
“They lack confidence.”
Confidence isn't a thing you can give a kid. It comes from doing something difficult and noticing you didn't break. Belt by belt, class by class, they build a stack of moments where they did the hard thing. The confidence follows.
“They cry when they lose.”
That's how it starts. The kids who feel losses most are often the ones who learn the most from them. On the mat, losing isn't a verdict, it's information. They learn to take the hit, reset, and go again.
“They're scared to try.”
That fear is logical. They're scared of failing in front of people. Every class on the mat is full of public failure: drills that don't work, partners that catch them, moves they haven't earned yet. After a few months, trying and failing stops feeling dangerous. It's just what training looks like.
What Parents Start to Notice
Most kids ask “when can I come back?” before their first class is even over. Here's what builds from there.
They Show Up.
Resilience starts with not bargaining your way out. Even when they're tired, even when something better is on, they pack the gi and go.
They Push Through.
When a class is hard, they stop asking for a break. They've started believing they can handle the rest of it. And then they can.
They Take Losses.
Losing on the mat is data, not a verdict. They start asking "what would I do differently?" instead of crying or making excuses.
They Try New Things.
Unfamiliar partners, unfamiliar moves, positions they haven't earned. After a few weeks, "I haven't done this before" stops being a reason not to start.
They Adapt.
When their first move doesn't work, they don't shut down. They try the next thing. Resilience is what adapting looks like in motion.
They Don't Fold.
What gets practised on the mat shows up at school. Tough day, tough friendship, tough piece of homework. Teachers ask what changed.

“My son was being bullied at school. After a few months at Gracie Barra he stopped feeling small, spoke up for himself, and made incredible friends. I couldn't have given him a better gift.”

“My daughter was shy and lacked confidence. Jiu-Jitsu is the first activity I've seen her stick to. She doesn't even see it as exercise. She just loves it. It has changed everything.”
